Clinical Rotation Travel

Most clinical sites are located within a daily round-trip commuting distance (approximately 90 miles) of the Southern New Jersey region. However, some sites may be outside the daily commuting range and could be located beyond 90 miles from campus, these sites are considered away rotations.

Students may complete up to four, 5-week away rotations that could require additional travel and temporary housing expenses. Based on current per diem rates from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), the estimated additional cost for these rotations may be approximately $15,000 added to the student’s Cost of Attendance. This estimate is calculated using the FY26 GSA Per Diem Rates for the state of New Jersey.

The program does not provide reimbursement for travel, housing, parking, or other related expenses. Students receiving financial aid may request additional funding to help cover these expenses.

Estimated Non-Tuition/Fees Student Expenses

The following estimates represent typical annual expenses beyond tuition and required program fees:

Expense Category Estimated Cost
Estimated annual expenses beyond tuition and fees $36,958
Estimated total expenses for the 24-month program $73,917

These estimates are provided for informational purposes and may vary based on individual student circumstances, housing choices, travel requirements, and personal spending.

Tuition Refund Policy

The tuition refund policy/procedures are available on the University Bursar's site.

Cost of Attendance Appeals

In some cases, a student's actual annual expenses exceed the estimated expenses included in the cost of attendance. In situations like this, a student may request a Cost of Attendance Appeal. Please review the Cost of Attendance Increase Policy, complete a Cost of Attendance Budget Worksheet, and schedule an appointment with a Financial Aid Counselor for more information.

SOM Student Emergency Fund

The Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine Student Emergency Fund (SEF) was established  to support students who are in need of immediate, short-term financial assistance due to unexpected, acute emergency expenses during medical school.

These funds are not designed to be used for routine expenses or as a consistent supplement to a student’s educational funding sources, including financial aid. Students who are experiencing long-term financial hardships due to their actual annual expenses exceeding the estimated expenses included in the cost of attendance should refer to the Cost of Attendance Appeal information above.

The application process will open in fall 2026.
