Rowan-Virtua SOM and Wilmington Veterans Affairs

Driving Osteopathic Excellence in Research and Scholarship Program

Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine has partnered with the Wilmington Veterans Affairs Medical Center to enhance research collaborations between medical students and scientists at the VA medical center. The SOM and VA joint initiative, called Driving Osteopathic Excellence in Research and Scholarship (SOM/VA DOERS), fosters collaborations and innovations that support the health and well-being of US veterans. This program enhances the medical student research experience and:

  • introduces medical students to the research infrastructure at the VA
  • helps students design projects which align with VA research priorities
  • assists in linking students to research opportunities with VA staff
Medical students enroll in the program during the summer months between their first and second year of medical school and may continue to do research under the direction of a VA mentor in their subsequent years of medical school.
