Rowan Summer PREP

Each year, the RowanSOM Summer Pre-Medical and Research Education Program (PREP) accepts 10-12 exceptional rising Juniors and Seniors from colleges and universities across New Jersey for a six-week residential internship program. This program is an opportunity for students who are often underrepresented in the medical profession to gain experiences to support their medical school preparation. We introduce students to Osteopathic Medicine through exposure to biomedical research, clinical shadowing, MCAT instruction, medical school admissions processes, and skill-building seminars. The program is funded via the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education's Educational Opportunity Fund (NJCHE-EOF).

  • A graphic that includes items a doctor or nurse might use, including a stethoscope, computer, heart rate images.
    • Mentorship: Program participants are paired with a RowanSOM faculty member to engage in research or observe clinical evaluations. Participants make formal presentations of their research findings and/or clinical experiences at the close of the program.
    • Preparation: Participants receive skills development and instruction to prepare for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). This includes how to plan academically and financially for medical school, as well as an introduction to the interview and admissions processes.
    • Experience: Participants are exposed to the SOM campus environment, faculty, students and staff, and to various healthcare and research areas through seminars, enrichment activities and demonstrations.
