RowanSOM Summer PREP

Each summer the RowanSOM Pre-Medical Research and Education Program (PREP) accepts exceptional rising seniors and juniors from colleges and universities across New Jersey for an educational internship program. This program is an opportunity for students who are often underrepresented in the medical profession to gain experiences to support their medical school preparation. We introduce students to Osteopathic Medicine through exposure to biomedical research, clinical shadowing, MCAT instruction, medical school admissions processes, and skill-building seminars. The program is funded via the New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF).

  • A graphic that includes items a doctor or nurse might use, including a stethoscope, computer, heart rate images.

    • Professional Training and Mentorship: PREP scholars are paired with either a RowanSOM Clinical Physician or Researcher throughout thE program to shadow and engage in research or clinical evaluations. They are given the opportunity and encouraged to network and build a rapport with Deans, Current Medical Students, PREP alumni, and peers. PREP scholars make formal presentations of their research findings and/or clinical experiences at the close of the program.

    • Academic Preparation: PREP scholars recieve instruction and tutoring to prepare for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). They are provided academic course work in Anatomy, Physiology, Problem Based Learning and Health & Wellness. Scholars are exposed to academic success skills such as learning strategies, test taking strategies, how to plan academically and financially for medical school, as well as an introduction to the interview and admissions processes.

    • Experiential Learning: PREP scholars are exposed to the SOM campus environment, faculty, students and staff, and to various healthcare and research areas through seminars, enrichment activities, trips, webinars and demonstrations.

The Prep Program will be held virtually this summer. We are very excited to host an interactive and engaging program for the Summer of 2022 that will expose Prep Scholars to Osteopathic Medicine.
