Wellness, Well-being & Community Committee
Mission
The mission of the Wellness, Well-being & Community Committee is to foster a culture of community, wellness, and belonging by advancing the core principles of osteopathy. We are dedicated to promoting holistic well-being across the Rowan-Virtua SOM community by mitigating practices that impede wellness and driving initiatives that support the mind, body, and spirit of every individual.
Vision
The WWC Committee envisions a campus community where community, health, and belonging are fully realized. We strive to cultivate a culture that actively eliminates harmful behaviors and practices, supporting the holistic well-being of all members of the SOM community.
How We Define Wellness
Wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits daily to attain better physical and mental health outcomes, supporting both professional and personal thriving. It is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. At SOM, wellness includes health promotion activities and organizational policies designed to support healthy behaviors, improve whole-person health outcomes, and foster a sense of belonging within our community.
The committee focuses on eight interdependent dimensions of wellness. While the balance may look different for each individual, attention to all dimensions is critical to overall well-being.
These include:
- Physical
- Intellectual
- Emotional
- Social
- Spiritual
- Occupational
- Financial
- Environmental
