Residency & Career Advising

We work hand-in-hand with faculty and students to coordinate a wide range of career and match advising programs throughout the year. Our services range from first-year students through house staff and alumni. If you need help writing your CV or personal statement, completing a residency application, preparing for interviews, or selecting a specialty, we have workshops that can help! Our programs are designed specifically with D.O.s in mind and we aim to provide expert guidance to the physicians of the future.

Getting Ready for the Match

You should start planning for the match process in your third year of medical school. By the time you have completed the majority of your rotations, you likely have a good idea of the specialty in which you are interested, which should help make for a smoother application process.

RowanSOM students who have questions regarding the graduate medical education application process are always welcome to reach out to the Center for Teaching and Learning, where we have dedicated counselors to help you every step of the way!

Letters of Recommendation

Once you have requested your Letters of Recommendation, create a separate entry for each letter you intend to use during the application season. You will receive a unique letter identifier that you will send to each author, along with uploading instructions. All letters must be uploaded through the ERAS Letter of Recommendation Portal by the letter authors.

An official copy of your RowanSOM transcript may be obtained by completing the transcript request form.

We will process student transcripts, which will be sent out to the programs you designate via the ERAS Post Office.

Preparing Your Curriculum Vitae

Your curriculum vitae (also called a vita or CV) will summarize your academic, employment and professional experience. You will be adding to your CV throughout your professional career so now is a good time to write one if you have not already done so.

Among the resources available to assist you in preparing your CV are:

  • Sample CVs are included in the packet of information about applying for internship/residency that your class receives.
  • Information/Tips distributed at the CV preparation workshop (available in AC Suite 210).
  • You should make an appointment to review your CV with Center for Teaching and Learning by sending an email to, or you can contact Jacqueline Giacobbe in Academic Affairs, prior to submitting it for your MSPE.
