Student Health Insurance
Medical students are required to have active health insurance for the full duration of their enrollment.
The University-sponsored health insurance plan, Aetna Student Health (PPO), can be waived if students provide proof of active health insurance and complete a Waiver of Insurance and Certification.

- To utilize an alternate insurance plan such as the ones listed below, you must submit a waiver to University Health Plans with proof of insurance by the deadline listed on their website.
- Health insurance plans through Get Covered NJ
- For medical students with a NJ residence
- Health insurance plans through Healthcare.gov
- For medical students with a residence outside of NJ
- NJ Family Care
- For medical students with a NJ residence and financial need. **If you know in advance that you will be applying to NJ Family Care, it is suggested that you apply by August 1st at the latest, as it can take up to 90 days to receive an answer.**
- International students with an F-1 visa may utilize the international student insurance plan offered by ISI or ISO.
- Turning 26 years old and will no longer be covered under a parent’s health insurance

- All students are charged for the University’s health insurance plan on their fall tuition bill, unless the health insurance is waived. You must complete a waiver by the deadline that shows your required health insurance coverage, and the waiver must be approved for the charge to be removed from your tuition bill.
- Yes, the cost of your University health insurance plan can be included in your financial aid package. After you enroll in the health insurance plan, forward the confirmation email to Financial Aid at stratfinaid@rowan.edu and visit this link to schedule an appointment to discuss.
- Step 1. You can use the provider search on Aetna’s website to see if the provider is listed.
- Step 2. Call your chosen provider’s office to make sure that they currently accept the insurance.
Long-Term Disability Insurance
All Rowan-Virtua SOM students have mandatory Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage included in their tuition. After graduation, long-term disability coverage is available at a discounted rate.
