“Where Medical Journeys Meet”

The SOM Connections Program fosters meaningful, one-on-one relationships between medical students and physicians to support general advising, residency preparation, and personal development. Through intentional pairings based on shared interests and goals, the program creates opportunities for impactful mentorship, empowering students to navigate their academic journey, explore career pathways, and grow into compassionate, well-rounded physicians committed to excellence in medicine.

Designed as a self-guided experience, the program allows each student-physician pair to move at a pace that fits their needs, creating space for organic growth and deeper connection. Strong relationships may naturally lead to additional opportunities such as clinical shadowing, research collaboration, or broader career guidance. Participating physicians contribute to the future of the profession, engage meaningfully with medical learners, and gain fresh perspectives from the next generation of doctors.

Looking for a Mentor?

  • Ask around! Ask professors, course directors, clerkship directors and your colleagues if they can recommend a physician in your field of interest.
  • Be social! Attend our Specialty Speed Networking events and Lunch and Learn programs to meet established physicians in the area.
  • Attend local NJAOPS/county dinners and programs. See bulletin board in Academic Center for meeting information.
