Transfer Policy
Element 9.3 Transfer Policy and Procedures
A. Eligibility for transfer
- Transfer requests are only considered for applicants attending an osteopathic medical school accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). Transfer requests are not considered for applicants attending a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), nor from International medical schools. Students dismissed from any medical school will not be considered.
- Applicants may request a transfer into the second (2nd) or third (3rd) year class.
B. Applicants requesting a transfer must submit or complete the following:
- A letter officially requesting the transfer along with the reason for the transfer request.
- Official transcripts from each institution in which the applicant matriculated, including: undergraduate, graduate school, and medical school transcripts, including grades from all programs attended.
- Detailed course descriptions and syllabi of all courses they've completed at their current medical school
- Official copy of MCAT score (s)
- If requesting a transfer into the third (3rd) year class must submit the results of their COMLEX-Level 1 score
- Pay and sign a release for a Criminal Background Check
- Note: If an applicant previously applied to Rowan-Virtua SOM the admissions office will obtain their AACOMAS application from the application cycle in which they applied, along with their previous letters of recommendation, transcripts and MCAT scores.
C. Transfer requests will not be granted to applicants for the following reasons:
- The student is not in good academic standing at their current institution
- The student has failed their COMLEX Level 1 exam
- The student was interviewed and rejected by the Admissions Committee on a previous application to Rowan-Virtua SOM
D. Transfer requests may be granted if the following is verified:
- The applicant is in good academic standing
- Any student applying for a transfer has a face-to-face or video interview
- A letter from the appropriate Dean verifying that the student has no honor code or non-academic disciplinary actions
- The student passed their COMLEX Level 1 Board Exam (if requesting a transfer into 3rd year)
- The student has cleared a criminal background check
- It has been determined by the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs that there is space available in the class in which the student is being considered.
E. Transfer Credits for Transfer Students
Transfer applicants who are seeking credit for one or two academic years spent at another COCA accredited osteopathic medical school must submit an official transcript showing the grades achieved in each completed course. In addition, they must submit course descriptions for the courses completed at their current medical school. The Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs along with the Assistant Dean for Curriculum reviews transfer student transcripts looking for equivalency of course work. If there is a deficiency in comparison to the curriculum at Rowan-Virtua SOM, summer course work prior to a second-year transfer or additional course work during the academic year may be necessary to meet the Rowan-Virtua SOM required competencies.
Transfer credit for Advanced Standing in science courses
Due to the thoroughly-integrated nature of the new curriculum, there is no advanced standing credit given for students who have matriculated into the Tensegrity curriculum.
